You might want to make the default konqueror home page just blank, I've found that this significantly reduces konq's load time, however the app still takes a good 5-10 seconds to load (though with a lot less HD activity). It appears that this is more of a binutils problem then it is a KDE issue (something to do with prelinking, I think). Hopefully once the binutils folks get stuff straightened out, load times will decrease :D - Kamil Kisiel
