Uhmmm. I can believe that. My system went from Potato/KDE/Ximian to Woody/KDE/GNOME (I do like my G... apps) via Dist upgrade and it's possible the config files weren't changed. (I checked my Potato install and it's Xserver line is missing vt7). I do keep backups and my date on Xservers.dpkg-dist (my name) is 26 Oct 2000 and it's :0 local... line does NOT have the vt7. Another config file problem is one that I may have caused. I don't practice safe apt-getting. When a update comes in and debconf tells me that I'll lose my settings and to View or replace or not ... I usually in the rush of things usually keep my configs. Yes I should carefully review changes! > > OK .. OK I shall do that. And thanks for the offer. I took a look at /etc/alternatives and specifically at /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives What stopped me was that there x-session-manager had two things - kde and gnome, while x-window-manager had afterstep, sawfish, fvwm2, twm, and wmaker. I was going to shelve this until I had more time! I am e-mailing you an e-mail with an attached file .xsession-errors.hoodes_13_Dec.gz - please let me know if this is sufficient information. > > Is there any way to put back either the CTRL-R (probably from xdm > > days) or the 'return to system console' which was in KDE 2.1 KDM > > and is not in KDE 2.2 KDM? > > yes ... once more you must edit Xservers: > :0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [...] Bravo once again! Thanks. I did notice that my forementioned Xservers.dpkg-dist file had a :0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] (w/o vt7) > I do use the ALT-Fn keys but I don't think they are active during > > KDM Login. > > ALT-CTRL-Fn - as always, when a console-grabbing application is > running (that is, X-server, dosemu in native vga mode, etc.). Yupp. ALT-CTRL-Fn does work with kdm ... with both the :0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [...] line in Xservers and without the tty1. ________________________________________________________ Michael Hoodes http://www.hoodes.com Seattle, WA
