Question cancelled: Just out of curiosity and without much hope I tried:

~# apt-get install --reinstall libqt3-dev
...
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
   libqt3-dev: Depends: libpng-dev (>= 1.2.1-1)

This led to a major reinstall of imagemagick and other stuff, including libpng-dev, amounting to an upgrade from testing to unstable I guess:

~# apt-get install --reinstall libpng-dev -s Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done The following extra packages will be installed: gdk-imlib1 imagemagick imlib-base libmagick++5 libmagick5 perlmagick The following packages will be REMOVED: gdk-imlib-dev libgal-dev libgdk-pixbuf-gnome-dev libglade-gnome0-dev libgnome-dev libgnomeprint-dev libgtkhtml-dev libmagick++5-dev libmagick5-dev libpng2-dev libqt-dev libqt-mt-dev libwmf-dev qt-designer The following NEW packages will be installed: libpng-dev 6 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 14 to remove and 182 not upgrad ed.

No I am happily compiling stuff that needs qt-mt.
