I've tried re-install KDE but that doesn't appear to work. I'm running 2.4.19 with the preemptive patch.

I think something bad happened when I forced the installation of kiofoto3
as now my machine cannot start any ioslave processes. Nothing appears on
the desktop and no communication pipes can open (i.e. no network traffic).
