It works fine in 4.1 for some graphics cards that have XRENDER support implemented in their drivers; it doesn't for others. XFree 4.2 has more cards supported, this is why you would want 4.2 if antialiasing doesn't work for your card. If you're fine with 4.1 then keep it I'd say.
