Far too complicated. Download the .dsc file, too and read "man dpkg-source"
and find in the first few lines:
SYNOPSIS
       dpkg-source -x filename.dsc

If he adds apt unstable deb-src, it is even easier to do (although the apt 
tools have quite some problems with packages that are only available as 
source).
