Please make sure you have no old gift's built from source, if so remove them, then run giFT-setup. You can not use an old ~/.giFT/gift.conf, you must rerun the setup. When it asks you for the protocols/plugins you want, type in OpenFT:Gnutella. Also make sure you read the first question in giFT-setup and answer with the number 1, or else the giFT daemon will never start.
