The imcompatability of which you speak is, I presume, related to kde.org offering Qt3 with a greater version than that in sid? If so, this is nothing to do with Chris or the official KDE packages. We still do not have Qt 3.1.2 in sid. A work-around for people upgrading from Woody to testing/unstable has been documented on the FAQ at http://wiki.debian.net/DebianKDE for a while.
