hi, one of the recent updates removed kde from the startup session options of gdm and it also does not start from kdm.
when starting with startkde, you have to first do xinit. what could be the cause for that, or how do i fix this without reinstalling the whole kde stuff? or is it a recent x upgrade which could cause this? current config with reportbug, out of a bug which seemed similarly, but i'm not sure: Date: Mon, 03 May 2004 21:22:37 -0500 Package: ksmserver Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal File: /usr/bin/startkde This [incredibly] annoying behavior, I think, is due to how the preinst script handles upgrades. It really should check to make sure the version being upgraded from is old enough that there's a need to call update-alternatives --auto (thereby dumping the administrator's preferred x-session-manager in favor of startkde). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.5-mm4 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 Versions of packages ksmserver depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.2.2-2 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-5 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.3.3-7 GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-6 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.3-2 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-7 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-5 compression library - runtime -solo
