Try using headphones. Does that still work? Because then we're both
having the same problem. :(
And this started since my last apt-get upgrade in which KMix was also
updated to the version that works with ALSA.
And I just figured it out... Start alsamixer on the command line, got
to the "External" channel (this is the last channel) and mute that.
Then, my sound worked again. I don't have headphones right now to
check whether they still work but... I guess they should.
