That sounds like this kernel bug in 2.6.3: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-scsi&m=107754298223833&w=2 It is not necessarily related to ide-scsi, AFAICT k3b would hang as long as there is any scsi device present. (not k3b's fault, though...) For me, the kernel patch solved this problem.
