I agree that for a day to day use, kmail works just fine, and only seldom i experience some minor annoyance. As for what you say, of kaddressbook being disconnected from kmail, i thought so, too. Then i followed a how to somewhere, which basically suggested to go to system settings > personal information and then select akonadi-resource as the standard resource for contacts.
