I'm running Debian/Forky on an AMD64 system. I use Dolphin with the Details view mode.

For as far back as I can remember, the easiest way to create a new file or folder in Dolphin was to find an empty spot in right (files) panel in the folder you wanted to create the thing in. Right clicking would give you an option to create something (folder, link, document, etc.),

About a month ago, that capability was effectively removed. Now if I right-click on an empty spot, it selects the file or folder that would have occupied that space if its name was longer (i.e. it assumes the entire row in the pane selects that file). If the entity happens to be a folder, it will let me create something in that folder (not where I wanted it). Otherwise, the create option doesn't appear.

Right clicking only works properly if there are not enough files to actually fill the entire panel. Then I can right click below the last file. Unfortunately, I have a lot of folders that have sufficient files in them to not allow that. Nor can I scroll past the last file to get below it.

I had been hoping this was a temporary aberration and normal operations would resume when a library was updated. However, I'm am now forced to the conclusion that someone thought this was good idea for some reason.

I haven't been able to find a reasonable work-around for this. For example, right clicking on a folder in the Folders (left) pane doesn't give me a create option. The best I've been able to do is find another folder that has some empty space in the Files pane, create what I want there, then move it to where I want it to be. Not only is this clumsy, but it also changes the modified time of the folder.

Is there some way I can restore the previous operation?

Thanks.

I don't have a solution to the issue your having but also have the same one. The way I get around it is to go have the Menubar visible and then when I want to create a new folder or file, I go to the menu bar and select "File - Create New - Folder". If you do not have the Menubar visible, you can click on the hamburger thing on the far right and select "Create New - Folder". It is not as convenient as clicking and selecting with the mouse in the file panel like I used to be able to do but it does work.

Kind regards,
Eric
