Just type into the /etc/mkinitrd/modules: aic7xxx_old sd_mod and install the prepackaged kernel. It should work, if aic7xxx_old is compiled as a module. Yes, on the instalation CD it would not work. You have to switch to the shell (Alt+F2) and load in manually.
