Package: kernel Severity: normal
Stock debian kernel images 2.4.26 and 2.6 up to and including 2.6.5 work fine, happily read partition table containing root fs on SCSI disk. Kernel images 2.6.6-1-k7 and 2.6.7-1-k7 fail to read partition table from disk, though do seem to detect controller and disk. Unsurprisingly, eventual kernel panic when root fails to mount. "/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: unknown partition table" Not much more to go on than that... Maybe related (same symptoms, similar hardware... different kernel tree): http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=108702899205509&w=2 There are a few changes between debian's kernel-source 2.6.5 advansys.c and 2.6.6+ advansys.c, though I haven't managed to prove those changes are responsible, >2.6.5 is working fine on other boxes, so I believe it to be advansys-specific. Report might be more appropriate to LKML or linux-scsi, but since I'm using debian's kernel, reported here first for referral at maintainer's discretion.
