Package: kernel-image-2.6.7-1-686 Version: 2.6.7-2 Severity: normal
With an IBM T41p, I ran into this problem. I was trying to get the machine to sleep unsuccessfully with: echo mem > /sys/power/state several times, but the machine was unable to go to sleep (see next bug report). Eventually, returning from the attempted sleep hung the e1000 driver. I attempted to reset the driver by removing and reloading the module. On removal, I get slowly repeating messages: unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0 to become free. Usage count = -256 Once this happens it can't be stopped. Trying to reboot the machine, it cannot get past shutting down interactive processes and still hangs on this message. I had to manually poweroff. I've seen the same behavior a few times on an IBM T30 probably linked to ACPI, but I'm not sure. I no longer have access to the T30 to test, though. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kernel-image-2.6.7-1-686 depends on: ii coreutils [fileutils] 5.2.1-2 The GNU core utilities ii initrd-tools 0.1.71 tools to create initrd image for p ii module-init-tools 3.1-pre5-3 tools for managing Linux kernel mo -- no debconf information
