I have also encountered the same problem as identified by Giacomo. Xconfig fails with the same error while menuconfig works fine. Therefore, I can confirm that this is an issue with the 2.4.27-4 Debian version of the kernel source. Given that individuals initially compiling their first few kernels are more likely to use xconfig, I would say this is probably a higher priority issue that indicated by Giacomo. But it does not completely block the compilation of a kernel. Regards, Barrie
