Hi, I just looked a bit more at it this morning and it looks like the driver for my SATA controller (module sata_promise) isn't loaded (however it is present in the initrd) /dev/console exists in the initrd but I supose it is looking for this in the "real" /.
PS: my working 2.6.8.1 has been installed with initrd-tools 0.1.73. I don't have much knowledge of the initrd process and very few time for now so I can't investigate more, I hope this will help you :) thanks -- aurelien
