Dear Maintainer,

This is a change of behavior from linux-image-5.16.0-6-amd64 to
linux-image-5.17.0-1-amd64.  The bug affects linux-image-5.17.0-1-amd64.
Booting 5.16.0 avoids the problem.

The host is a desktop machine using a physical AMD Radeon RX 470 card.
It connects over DisplayPort to a KVM, and from there DisplayPort to a
4K monitor.

The bug triggers when my host loses its connection to the monitor.
This may happen when I flip at the KVM, or it may happen when the
monitor turns off due to normal screensaver and power manager actions.
In the attached kernel log, I simply powered off the monitor and left
for several minutes.  (HDMI might not have the same behavior; it's my
understanding that DisplayPort aggressively reaps monitor connections
on any sort of disconnect, including powering off, while HDMI and DVI
do not.)

The kernel's DRM module goes into a loop where it re-initializes, up
to multiple times per minute.  If I reconnect the monitor within a
short time, the re-initialization stops.  If I don't reconnect, the
DRM module starts reporting "ring gfx timeout" errors as well.  Here's
a previous boot example, where I had finished using the computer for
the night.  The kernel reported errors after 12 minutes of
re-initialization logs:
