The fact that the yaird ramdisk is smaller than the huge include everything ramdisks produced by initrd-tools, is not a bug, but a feature, and a good one. Now, if the resulting ramdisk fails to boot for you, which should never happen, since it should fail to generate an image and die and install time instead, this is a bug, but a different matter altogether. In this case, it would be helpfull to get the installation log of the package, as well as a description of what the problem is, and your hhardware configuration, especially on what disk/controller/filesystem your root partition is.
