Yes, during the install the card did it very well!
Only after rebooting the card worked no longer.

Wow, that's interesting. The kernel which is used by installer is -486, so if you're running linux-image-2.6.15-1-686, you might want to try installing linux-image-2.6.15-1-486 and booting it to check whether your card will start working. It would be pretty surprising if it would, but you never know :-).
