quik writes to whatever input-device and output-device are configured in open firmware. Unfortunately for many old world macs (including mine), this defaults to the ttya (/dev/ttyS0) which means all the user sees is a blank screen, for the timeout and loading period of quik The kernel also defaults to the open firmware i/o as the console, which means that until the system is completely loaded and a login: prompt appears, all that you see is the penguin logo (assuming no errors occur during the boot process; if there are errors the machine will be effectively hung as it waits for input in the serial port). -- And that's my crabbing done for the day. Got it out of the way early, now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or strangle cute bunnies or something. -- Michael Devore -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
