Making a custom vserver capable linux-image-2.6.17 package

Is it possible in 2.6.17 to build a custom linux kernel package using 
"make-kpkg --added-patches vserver", as it was in previous versions? The 
only way I can see for now is to manualy apply vserver patches found in 
the linux-patch-debian package. Am I missing something?
