Obviously kernel upstream believes the current code is correct, and that this is a gcc bug. But I'm wondering why the embedded assembly in the Linux kernel can't be fixed to include .arch ev56, so that the error-checking semantics of gcc can be preserved in the general case? -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world.
