hmmm, something must go wrong during the build then:
$ cat /boot/config-2.6.22-rc5-powerpc | grep PMU
$

but in the debian kernel source tree of 2.6.22-rc5:
$ cat drivers/macintosh/Kconfig | egrep 'config.*PMU'
config ADB_PMU68K
config ADB_PMU
config ADB_PMU_LED
config ADB_PMU_LED_IDE
$

So the config option isn't gone from the kernel itself. Let me know if you need
more info..
