I am installing Etch on a really old computer -- so old, that grub has problems with its BIOS w.r.t disk geometry. I solved the grub problem by going back to LILO. But after installing lilo and removing grub, kernel-image update failed because update-grub, a postinst script, was not found. I worked-around it by soft-linking update-lilo to update-grub.
