Hello Bastian, I did a quick grep of the Linux 2.6.24 source code, and found this message in:
arch/x86/kernel/head_32.S starting at line 581. I don't know whether this actually makes a difference, but I thought you might want to know. Out of curiosity, I also tried the -486 flavour. This also fails, but the failure seems to occur somewhat later in the boot process. The last messages I see are: CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1400MHz stepping 05 Checking 'hlt' instruction... At this point, Virtual PC pops up the following message: An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now.
