After upgrading kernel from 2.6.24 to 2.6.25 my ethernet was not recognized. A real show-stopper, scared me a bit!
On 2.6.24 my internal ethernetport was always recognized and module r8169 used to be loaded at boot. I found this driver to be unstable with my internal card. With the help an Ubuntu-patch (r8168-8.005.00.hardy.diff.txt) I compiled the r8168-8.005.00.tar.bz2 and got rock-solid ethernet. After my last aptitude full-upgrade, witch included kernel 2.6.25, my ethx was suddenly invisible. I solved the problem by modprobe r8169 to get my card working, then ifconfig, and finally install the new kernel headers, and compiling r8168 as before. ------------------------------------ Why isn't r8168 included in the 2.6.25-kernel? Why didn't any modules for my ethx load on my machine after the upgrade? ------------------------------------ [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/debian_version lenny/sid [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a Linux asus 2.6.25-2-686 #1 SMP Fri Jun 27 03:23:20 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci | grep Ethernet 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
