*Dear Kernel Maintainers*

Debian Kernel Team, Bastian Blank, Frederik Schueler & Maximilian Attems

I write to tell us about an option in the kernel config that causes
crashes on X server, specifically on ATI Rage video cards, a matter that is
possibly able to crash another hardware according to the linux kernel
configuration help. Well, the trouble is this line,

CONFIG_X86_PAT=y

Furthermore, the kernel help says,

config X86_PAT
        bool
        prompt "x86 PAT support"
        depends on MTRR
        ---help---
Use PAT attributes to setup page level cache control.

PATs are the modern equivalents of MTRRs and are much more
          flexible than MTRRs.

Say N here if you see bootup problems (boot crash, boot hang,
spontaneous reboots) or a non-working video driver.

          If unsure, say Y.

The problematic package is linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 on the testing branch
'squeeze'.

Regards and thank you so much for the attention.
