Daniel Vetter ported video overlay support for intel chips to kernel mode setting, his patches are in drm-intel-next, queued up for 2.6.33. He provided a backport of that to 2.6.32 at http://gitorious.org/daniel-s-linux-stuff/linux-kernel/commits/intel-kms-overlay-for-2.6.32 It'd be nice to include it in the squeeze kernel, to make video work on i8xx chips (later ones have textured video, but i8xx doesn't).
