Rebooting might have helped Simon Chopin's system, but the bug
consistently remains on mine after many reboots.
Chopin seems hasty in closing this. This error message _did_
show up on his system:
Use of uninitialized value $label_len in numeric gt (>) at
/var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-base.postinst line 1338.
It didn't show up twice for him, but it still showed once.
Example:
# imagine a buggy command-line calculator:
foobarcalc "2 + 2"
5
# Where'd that '5' come from? clearly a bug.
# ....
# here the user reboots.
# try again.
foobarcalc "2 + 2"
4
# symptom's gone, but is the bug?
