Hi, we have similar problems with our Dell Poweredge servers 2950III, r710 (2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64). The Poweredge 2950III were running fine with debian etch and kernel 2.6.18 - but after distupgrade to lenny and backported kernel the problem appeared.
Our newer Poweredge r710 systems are used with a spanningtree infrastructure in a Dell PowerConnect 6200 series setup. If the r710 freezes -> then all other servers (which are connected to the same switch) will lost theirs connection to the internet, because the switch sets the rootinstance to the DMZ-switch (it should be the next cisco router). In this case: eth0 is internet traffic and won't work. eth3 is DMZ traffic and is still working after the crash. Additionaly we are using other drivers as distributed by debian: modinfo megaraid_sas filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64/updates/dkms/megaraid_sas.ko description: LSI MegaRAID SAS Driver author: [email protected] version: 00.00.04.28 srcversion: 3830C0ED8003D7CCA3265B2 parm: poll_mode_io:Complete cmds from IO path, (default=0) (int) modinfo bnx2 filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64/updates/dkms/bnx2.ko version: 2.0.8e description: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5706/5708/5709/5716 Driver author: Michael Chan <[email protected]> srcversion: A8E4A40F80F0AB491150CB2 parm: disable_msi:Disable Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) (int) parm: stop_on_tx_timeout:For debugging purposes, prevent a chip reset when a tx timeout occurs (int) Configuration of the PowerConnect 6200 series switch: switchports are configured with spanning-tree portfast and rootguard. Typically the server is freezing and show's only the last kernelerrors in the remote management card - some screenshots for examples: https://ssl.studenten-wg-halle.de/webdav/public/1.jpg https://ssl.studenten-wg-halle.de/webdav/public/2.jpg https://ssl.studenten-wg-halle.de/webdav/public/3.jpg https://ssl.studenten-wg-halle.de/webdav/public/4.jpg Thank you for your efforts. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
