It's none of the externals modules, its r300(rv530) kms.
When the radeon module is removed (completely from the filesystem as I
did not find any easy way to disable loading it) )suspend and resume
with uswsusp works (at least with 2.6.38 to which I upgraded trying to
fix this).

I experienced no such issue with r600(rv710 and Redwood).
