Thanks for reporting.  A few quick questions:

 - does it happen immediately or only sometimes?
 - could you please send the full output of "dmesg" from booting and quickly
   triggering the problem with the working and non-working versions?
 - if it's possible to test without the virtualbox modules, does that help?
