Ah! Yes, this was probably improved by v2.6.38-rc1~489^2~11 (sched: Add 'autogroup' scheduling feature: automated per session task groups, 2010-11-30). If you get a chance to test the kernel from sid or experimental to confirm, that could be helpful.
