I have just tried shorting pin 4 (rts ?) to ground under kernel-3.0.0. This with debug=1 on the module.
Absolutely nothing in /var/log/debug or dmesq. I tried several times. So this seems to be a major difference from the old working modules. As for the explanation....... Progress of a sort, I think.
