Sorry, what I meant to say is that not hibernating does not help me at all.

My longest uptimes would be of the order of a couple of months all the way up
to 3.0, after which my longest uptime has been ~48 h, regardless of the
version of the kernel, firmware, or wireless tools.
One thing just occurred to me: I added 2 GB of memory (total 4 GB) at about
the time these problems started. I cannot say for sure the problems did not
start earlier, but it is quite possible they started after! (Please do not
tell Lenovo that I added the memory myself as I still have on-site warranty
for another year or so. =) )
If the replugging of the wifi card does not solve the problem, i.e. if it
resurfaces, I will try going back to 2 GB to see if that helps.
