Thanks for trying that.
Please test a wheezy kernel built by the same method, like this:
git remote add debian \
git://git.debian.org/kernel/linux-2.6.git
git fetch debian
git checkout debian/wheezy
make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4
dpkg -i ../<name of package>; # as root
reboot
