for AR8161 here:

With prerequisites
apt-get -s install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r`
the source compiled on my Debian/wheezy with kernel linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64
/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1-snpc#
./scripts/driver-select alx
make
make install
make unload
modprobe alx
