Hi Matt, I never found a real "solution" to this problem. I ended up just upgrading my way around it, so to speak.
I was able only to trace it down to an unhandled IRQ. I posted the details of this in several places: https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2015/04/msg01223.html https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97131 http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/125021 After the reply I got to the last of these posts, the bottomline was that * the unhandled IRW was *possibly* due to some kernel bug; but * I was working with a pretty old kernel (3.2.0), and it was therefore unlikely that this putative bug would ever be fixed; and therefore, * I should try upgrading my kernel. Fortuitously, right around the time that I was fighting with this, Debian's version turned over, and after I upgraded from wheezy to jessie, I no longer saw the problem. Good luck.
