Herbert, eu deixaria "byte string" sem tradução. Algo como:
As classes equivalentes são para padrões de "byte string".
Essa é minha escolha também.
Ou, talvez:
As classes equivalentes são para padrões de sequências de bytes.
Considerando que "byte string" se refere a um tipo de dados do Python,
assim como "Unicode string", e quem estiver lendo vai entender melhor
se ficar em inglês (se eu não tiver interpretado errado).
É. O público do texto está acostumado com esses termos, acredito.
