My installation of XFree86 4.0.1 went smoothly but I noticed that after I shutdown the Xserver, the text console would be very very dim. Somehow, I think this is related to resetting the graphic card (Neomagic MagicMedia 256AV) when switching from X to console as it recovers if I hibernate it once.
