dpkg is giving me errors

When I try to install some packages with dpkg, I get the error 

Unpacking ssh (from .../ssh_1%3a2.3.0p1-0.11_i386.deb) ...
Can't locate object method "value" via package "Debian::DebConf::Question" at 
/usr/lib/perl5/Debconf/Config.pm line 31.

The system was only installed today, so it is unlikely to be very corrupt. 
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
