Hi i have the model laptop and i know that the modem will work under Linux :) i have not achieved it my self yet but I have read that it will work with the driver provided by Motorola, its a SM56 PCI modem
have a look at http://www.retepnet.it/alfmar/pxnsoa.html as for the sound indicator its done by the software that is installed on windoz.
