You'll want to start with a vanilla kernel from www.kernel.org and use 
the ACPI patch from http://acpi.sourceforge.net -- there seems to have 
been many problems with the 2.4.21 kernel and ACPI, so if you can, 
I would stick to 2.4.20 for now. The ACPI options are in General Setup
under Power Management when you compile the kernel.
