Hello,

I'm looking to get a new portable, and my employer pushes Dell on us.
Any particular models that have a good track record with Debian?
Know video chipsets that work or do not work well? Weird screen sizes?
Battery power management success/failures?

Weird MS style corrupted bios issues? Anyone successfully running
linuxbios on a dell? www.linuxbios.org
Anyone successfully running linuxbios on any portable?

Good idea from your employer. Dell is, for me, the best choice for laptops and desktops. :)

I run testing on my Latitude C840, and no major problems. Just some
tricky things for video (GeForce) and Modem (Builtin PCTel or equi).

But you can look at the *marvelous* http://tuxmobil.org/ site to
check, and post too, experiences using Debian or other distros on
laptops.

Have a look at http://francois.tourde.org/C840/ for C840 model, and to
have an example of what you can (must?) do once installed :)

Thanks Everyone, for all of the good information and advise on Dell's w/ Debian.....
Now if we could only request Debian from Dell, when you order a laptop.....
They do sell servers with Linux.....
