xscreensaver seems to hang xfee86 in Inspiron 5160 (using ACPI)

In Inspiron 5160 running Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.7 (smp and ACPI and APM 
compiled), I get these errors (apm is disabled in grub options with 
"noapm"). I believe xfree86 hangs when xscreensaver suspends the system 
(because if no user is logged into gdm and the login screen is there, it 
just blanks after some time and I can bring it back up by touching the 
touchpad; the system does not hang and the temperature is a normal value 
of 58C). Part of the log messages is given below:

These last lines are repeated continuously till I ssh into the laptop 
and stop gdm. At that time top shows that xfree86 is taking 99% of CPU 
and the fan of the laptop is running at full speed and "acpi -V" shows 
that the temperature is 68C. As soon as gdm is killed, the temperature 
comes down within seconds and in half a minute of so all is okay again.

So the question is, what is causing this? And what is that "apm: BIOS 
not found"? Does the latter message mean that BIOS does not support apm 
at all?

Has anyone else experienced this?
If my config file will help, I will post it.
