You probably said 'yes' to a question about starting a terminal on the serial line of your pcmcia card, without giving the proper parameters (there are no good defaults). There is an option in /etc/pcmcia/serial.opt set to 'YES'. Set it to 'NO'. I'm not sure about the filename and too lazy to look up the option, but it is documented in the PCMCIA-HOWTO Ben.
