Ok, so is the chipset the same? If so, check out his XF86Config file. You can always remove the references to higher resolutions. If his file is generated by many of the standard tools, it will have all standard resolutions from 640x480 on up -- likely 800x600 is in the file already.
There are several entries in XF86Config files. One group lists the video details of how to achieve a particular resolution, later sections decide which resolutions the machine will actually use. Ctrl-Alt-+ (that's holding the Control and Alt keys down and also pressing the plus sign '+' key at the same time) will cycle through the available resolutions. Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace will kill the X server. If you get a bad resolution, and the Ctrl-Alt-+ doesn't get you out of it, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace should put you back in text mode. regards, Bret [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > It only support up to 800X600x16. > > Destinatarios: JUAN VICENTE/BANELCO/AR > CC: [email protected] > Asunto: Re: Xconfig for Thinkpad 390E > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > I'm not sure about what would happen if I use your sync rates... > if your video chip set and resolution are the same it shouldn't be an > issue.
