The only way I could get the machine to work was to change to a text console before I suspended and then suspend. However when I resumed my laptop X was completely mangled however I could restart it at which point it was fine until the next resume.
But I didn't try any of the various 'options' for my graphics card as I didn't know about the existance of such things until more recently. Alex
